Is Catania worth visiting?
by greg on February 3, 2012
I’m going to be traveling to Catania, Sicily, in a few days and was wondering if anyone had any advice on what to do in the city. I’ve never been to Sicily before and am looking to visit some of the major cities. I’m going to be there for a few days and don’t want to spend all my time in Palermo.
I’m looking to visit the following:
-Piazza Bellini-Piazza Pretoria-Piazza della Loggia-Piazza del Duomo-Piazza del Duomo-Piazza San Giovanni-Piazza San Giovanni-Piazza del Duomo-Piazza del Duomo-Piazza Bellini-Piazza Bellini
I’m not sure how much I’ll be spending on each day and I’m not sure if I want to spend a lot on a day.
I’m going to be staying at the Hotel Bellavista.
Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks

I was there in July and had a great time. The only place I would avoid is the “old town”. There is nothing there but a bunch of touristy shops. It’s not worth the hassle.

Which is better Palermo or Catania?
We have been to Catania and Palermo many times. We love both places, but we are torn between the two.
We are from the midwest, so we love the big cities. We love the history, the culture, the food, the shopping, the nightlife, and the views. We love to walk around, get lost, and find our way back. We love the museums, the architecture, and the beautiful old buildings.
Palermo is the larger of the two cities, but Catania has more of the “real Sicily”. We love the culture, the food, the people, and the history. We love the views, the shopping, the nightlife, and the views.
We have a 3 month old baby, so we love the beach. We love the water, the sand, and the views. We love the food, the culture, and the history.
We are not sure which city is better for us.
