Why Interview Riggers?
At the end of the day, the job of a rigger is to build a structure. A rigger builds structures for people.
We’re not building a structure for the sake of building a structure. We’re building a structure for the sake of people.
People who work with us are our most important asset.
The way we build a structure for people is by working with them. We do this by talking to them. We talk to them about the structure. We talk to them about the people. We talk to them about what’s going on in their life.
When we talk to people, we’re listening. When we listen, we’re learning. When we learn, we’re growing. When we grow, we’re building.

How can I be a good rigger?
If you’re looking for a quick answer, the answer is ‘it depends’. You need to know a little about the rigging of your particular boat, and you need to know how to rig your boat, so you can do a good job.
I don’t mean ‘rig’ as in ‘rig up’, but as in ‘rig out’. You need to know how to rig your boat so that it will sail well, and if you are a ‘new rigger’ you will probably need to be told how to rig your boat.
There are lots of things to know about rigging. You need to know the boat, the sails, the mast, the boom, the spreaders, the shrouds, the running rigging, the standing rigging, the blocks and the sails. The International Rigging Association (IRA) is the only organization that certifies riggers. The IRA requires a rigorous exam and a license from the state in which you are working. The IRA certification is recognized by all states and is the only certification accepted by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
